I'm not sure that 11 league appearances in Div 4 spread across five seasons really counts for too much. Surely played a reasonable amount of times in the top flight has to be the qualification or else we've got the likes of Geoff Hurst counting (one 1st class match for Essex v Lancs - 0* and 0).

Incidentally, who could be more despicable than the last football/cricket dual international, Arthur Milton - Arsenal and Gloucestershire*

*In fact, in all seriousness, hats off to the man, a legend and a true gentleman who DID give a 7 year old me an autograph

Interesting article in last night's programme about how Greenwood changed Bobby's role in the team. He went from being a more traditional centre half to much more of a 'libero' with licence to roam forward/spring attacks, with our formation changing to 442 and Ken Brown taking the normal centre half role.

Obviously it was the making of him!!

Why doesn't Botham count?

Was he not paid by Scunthorpe then?

MJK (Mike) Smith played cricket and RU for England during the 1950s through 1970s.

The four-eyed Warwickshire telling a 7 year old me to fuck off when I asked for an autograph cunt.

'Not West Ham but Denis and Leslie Compton for Arsenal and England cricket'

Les played football for England but not cricket. Denis played cricket but not football. However, Denis got a wartime international cap and would certainly have played football for England if not for the war. The Gooner cunts.

And I reckon Chris Balderstone was the last to play both sports with any distinction. Two tests and played in old 1st Div for Huddersfield and Carlisle.

As a real youngun I remember Useless taking a fearful and frequent cunting of the highest order, so he must of been shite!

One thing for sure, he was no Peters who was a truly brilliant player - albeit a cunt to us kids for which I have never forgiven him, that and saying in the press/tv that he considers himself more of a Spurs player than West Ham

Greaves was a straight swap for Peters. Eusrace was already here.

Peter Eustace....smashing bloke. Had a good chat with him and he said he had no idea why Greenwood bought him as he was asked to do a tough tackling job in midfield and that just wasn't his game.

Also told me he introduced Jamie Vardy to Leicester.

Re: Yeah but we won the World Cup...
Yup Eustace was Martin Peters replacement, in Greenwood's mind anyway

Re: Yeah but we won the World Cup...
Not sure Eustace was a defender, more a creative midfielder?

I think you're right on overlapping fullbacks & also I believe he was the first coach to successfully employ the near post header tactic (at which Hurst & Peters excelled before going their separate ways)

I think Useless Eustace was another of Greenwoods wonderful signings supposed to add a bit of steel to our leaky defence

Phil Neville was tipped for a first class cricket career before he chose football...

Yeah Botham played for sCUNThorpe didn't he?

Re: Yeah but we won the World Cup...
I'm sure they bought cushley as they needed a ball winning hard centre half and on his debut he kicked the centre forward up in the air a few times and at half time greenwood warned him "we don't do that here" that was that he was useless from then on

Re: Yeah but we won the World Cup...
Was trying to remember the last player to be both a pro footballer and first class cricketer (and Botham doesn't count).
Googled it and I think Jim Cumbes (the West Brom) keeper is the answer

I think you can probably say that Jim Standen winning the FA Cup and the County championship in 1964 will never happen again.
Unless Alistair Cook signs for Man City instead of going on the Ashes tour.

Re: Yeah but we won the World Cup...
A few West Ham players played cricket, Jim Standen and I think Geoff Hurst?
